Formation & Growth
The Indian Medical Association was launched as a voluntary organisation in 1928 and registered under the Societies Act, 1860 (XXI), No. 325/1934. It is today the largest professional association of doctors in the country and among its largest non-governmental organisations, devoted to the skill preparedness and welfare of the doctors of modern scientific medicine and to the health of the common man at large. From an academic body of medicine it has evolved into a nodal welfare organisation serving not only its members but the entire community. The Andhra Pradesh State Branch grew alongside the state itself, extending from a handful of district associations to a network of local branches that today serve doctors in every district of Andhra Pradesh.
A Continuing Legacy
Across the decades, the State Branch has organised state conferences, championed medical education, supported doctors in their professional lives and led public health campaigns. The detailed chronology of milestones, office bearers and landmark events is being compiled by the State Office and will be published on this page.
